Silica Raman scattering probe for absolute calibration of Thomson scattering spectrometers

We have developed a solid state probe for an absolute irradiance calibration of the Thomson scattering system on Large Plasma Device (LAPD), based Raman off silica. Measurements performed with triple-grating spectrometer investigated intensities pulsed laser beam scattered crystalline and amorphous silica over range temperatures relevance to LAPD (299 - 498 K). The data were compared Rayleigh in gaseous nitrogen. measurements show that quartz allows rapid accurate alignment systems plasma physics experiments cannot be calibrated using conventional methods.
